MY FATHER'S HANDS
Holding my father's hands these last days, I think of the cows they have milked and birthed, the nails they have pounded, blocks laid up into barn walls. These hard-working hands also were tender, a father's hands wiping a child's tear-stained face. Day by day the clasp of these loving hands on my own has grown weaker as they reach out for the next world. Gently, reluctantly, I let them go, to hold the joy of their reward, and take the outstretched hand of God. - T.M.
